Last year, the Kia Telluride shook the world when it became the World Car of The Year.
Will history repeat itself? We may be biased, but we think so!
This year, the jurors for the World Car of The Year added the Kia K5 and Sorento to their Top 10 nominees for this award. Both vehicles are also sold in other markets outside of the U.S.A., including its own home market of the Republic of Korea and around the world.
The World Car of The Year Awards is now in its 17th year. The idea of this award is to reflect the reality of the global automotive marketplace. As the global automotive marketplace is rapidly changing, these awards recognize excellence and innovation through its nominees and award winners. These awards are determined through an international jury of 93 acclaimed automotive journalists from 28 countries around the world.
The K5 and Sorento truly fit in what these jurors are looking for. The K5 sedan is innovative beyond just its exterior and interior design. It offers a driving experience not found in many of today’s mid-size family sedans. The reward is an engaging experience powered by a series of turbocharged engines and a wide range of trims that fit every personality of the owner.
The Sorento takes the excellence of the Telluride and presents a three-row SUV offering capability along with bold design. It offers up a turbocharged hybrid driveline – a first in its class. Plus, the Sorento adds more off-road capability along with proven advanced safety tech in a well-executed package.
The World Car of The Year Awards will be announced on April 20.
In 2020, the Kia Telluride became the most-awarded vehicle of the year. It captured all of the major awards – including World Car of The Year.

The U.S. News & World Report 2021 Best Cars for Families awards were chosen on their family-friendly technological merits. Features such as in-car wireless internet, teen driver controls, automatic braking, surround-view parking camera systems, and hands-free cargo doors helped Telluride rise above its competition.
However, what makes the Telluride a winner is that more customers are asking for one from Kia of Mankato than ever. The Kia Stinger. The embodiment of performance and power.
Born on the Nürburgring, Stinger met every trial, every challenge, and every exhilarating turn. As a result, it captured a loyal following that asked Kia for even more.
Now, evolved into something more focused and even more exciting than its inception, the 2022 Kia Stinger elevates the game with evolved exterior design, more advanced safety features, cutting-edge technology, and unmatched performance.
First, you will notice new, fully-LED exterior lighting, designed to improve vision all around, accents the front and back of the sleek body. The fastback body eliminates drag and allows the Stinger to slip through the air with ease. New, artistically-designed alloy wheels adorn all trim levels and speak of the speed capability of this vehicle. The Stinger has a more aggressive exhaust design that growls, begs to be opened up on the road, and makes your heart pump. The all new Kia badging adorns and perfectly accents the vehicle design.
An all-new 300-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter engine for the GT-Line models brings exciting new performance capabilities. Even with the additional muscle, there is no penalty of fuel economy over the previous 2.0-liter engine.
GT models retain their 368-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine and remain the performance leaders of its class. The new electronic variable exhaust audibly makes its presence known. Both engines connect to an eight-speed automatic transmission and available torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive.
As a sports machine, one must have the cabin that fits its mission. The 2022 Stinger raises the bar of driving experience for the driver and its passengers. A new 10.25-inch navigation display is standard across all trims, giving you a larger screen for all infotainment functions and putting everything easily at your fingertips. Black gloss and chrome trim, upgraded LED ambient mood lighting, and a new Nappa leather seat design enhances the new display.
As for safety, Kia’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems expanded its feature list to include Auto Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance, and Lane Keeping Assist as standard on all trim levels. These advanced safety additions join a well-established collection of incomparable features that already gave the Kia Stinger an IIHS top safety rating.
A Special Edition 2022 Kia Stinger
To celebrate the enhanced, new 2022 Stinger, Kia will be offering a Scorpion Special Edition. Coming this spring, this special Stinger will include a rear spoiler, blacked out fender garnish, side mirror caps, and darkened exhaust tips, unique black wheels, and an interior carbon fiber pattern trim. The Scorpion Special Edition is only available in these exterior colors: Snow White, Aurora Black, and Ceramic Silver. This special edition Stinger will definitely sting!

What does it take to become number one? It takes building dependable vehicles for every budget and being very good at it. Good enough to be recognized for doing so.
This year, J.D. Power recognized how far Kia has gone to produce and sell the most dependable vehicles sold in America. Therefore, they bestowed the top spot on the J.D. Power 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study among mainstream vehicle brands. Kia earned this distinction by scoring 97 problems per 100 vehicles. The industry average is 121 problems per 100 vehicles.
Kia jumped six places from last year’s study to earn the top spot in the 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study. This follows up Kia’s earning the top spot in the J.D. Power 2020 Initial Quality Study.
The study measures the number of problems per 100 vehicles experienced over the last year by owners of their three-year-old vehicles, meaning this study focused on 2018 model year vehicles. It includes 32 nameplates and 153 models, covering problem symptoms grouped into eight major vehicle categories: Driving Experience, Interior, Engine/Transmission, Exterior, Audio/Communication/Entertainment/Navigation, Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning, and Seats.
The result is a lineup of dependable vehicles that you can count on. That is what Kia does for you.
The all-new Kia K5 and Sorento created quite the buzz so far this year. The automotive media praised their sharp design, fun-to-drive demeanor, high-tech interior and high level of features on both vehicles.
All of these reasons helped Autotrader recognize both new Kias as something more desirable for our customers. Therefore, they awarded both the K5 and the Sorento among the “Best New Cars for 2021.”
What makes them an Autotrader winner?
The Autotrader Best New Cars Award is intended to benefit a broad set of shoppers by highlighting a diverse group of 12 vehicles. Each vehicle on this year’s list was agreed upon unanimously by the entire editorial and data team at Autotrader. To be considered, a vehicle must be of the current or next model-year and available for purchase at the time of the announcement.
The editors capped the base price for consideration at $75,000, meaning every contender offers a significant value for the asking price. Not only is value a top priority, but vehicles are also judged on available technology and a rewarding or dynamic driving experience. Each winning vehicle must earn a score of 4.0 or higher on the editors’ 5-point evaluation scorecard to be named a 2021 Autotrader Best New Car.
The K5 and Sorento met these criteria with flying colors. With its high style, technology and driving experience, the turbocharged K5 invites you to take the wheel across Southern Minnesota to find some wonderful roads to see how it handles them. The Sorento is our storytelling machine, designed to accommodate families on a road trip with advanced technology and superb comfort no matter where you go across our state and beyond the Mississippi River.
