Kia of Mankato Launches The Hope Collective: A New Community for Cancer Survivors in Southern Minnesota
June 12 2026 - Kia of Mankato

At Kia of Mankato, being Community Driven means more than selling vehicles. It means investing in the people, families, and causes that make Southern Minnesota such a special place to call home.

Over the years, Kia of Mankato has proudly supported local nonprofits and organizations that serve individuals and families affected by cancer. Through sponsorships, awareness campaigns, and community partnerships, we have witnessed firsthand the strength, resilience, and courage of those navigating a cancer journey.

Today, we are excited to take that commitment one step further.

Introducing The Hope Collective

The Hope Collective is a new community initiative created by Kia of Mankato with a simple but powerful mission: to bring cancer survivors together through meaningful experiences, shared connections, and supportive community events.

While treatment and recovery are deeply personal experiences, many survivors share a common desire to connect with others who understand the challenges, victories, and emotions that come with a cancer diagnosis. The Hope Collective was created to help foster those connections in a welcoming, encouraging environment.

Our goal is to create opportunities where survivors can gather, build relationships, share stories, and celebrate life beyond cancer.

Launching The Hope Collective with Creativity and Connection

The inaugural Hope Collective event brought cancer survivors together for an evening of guided canvas painting.

The project centered around a butterfly, a symbol often associated with transformation, hope, resilience, and new beginnings. While the butterfly served as the foundation for the project, participants were encouraged to make it uniquely their own.

Each canvas became a reflection of an individual journey.

Some paintings featured vibrant colors and bold designs. Others embraced softer tones. No two butterflies looked alike, which beautifully represented the reality that no two cancer journeys are the same.

The evening wasn't about creating a perfect painting. It was about creating space for conversation, connection, healing, and self-expression.

Why Community Matters for Cancer Survivors

A cancer diagnosis can impact every aspect of life. Even after treatment ends, many survivors continue to face physical and emotional challenges as they adjust to a new normal.

Research and survivor experiences consistently highlight the importance of community support during and after cancer treatment. Opportunities to connect with fellow survivors can help reduce feelings of isolation, encourage emotional wellness, and provide meaningful peer support.

Looking Ahead

The guided painting event is only the beginning. Through The Hope Collective, Kia of Mankato’s goal is to create ongoing opportunities for survivors throughout the Mankato area, and Southern Minnesota, to build those connections.

The Hope Collective will continue to explore new opportunities for cancer survivors to gather through creative experiences, educational events, wellness activities, social gatherings, and community-centered programming.

We are excited to grow this initiative and welcome more survivors into the community in the months and years ahead.
